quarterDo you have a QUARTER to spare?

Join our children as we learn about the global problem of Malaria.

Did you know?

  • Malaria claims twice the number of African children as AIDS each year.
  • Globally, 500 million people are infected with malaria every year.
  • Over 1 million people die from malaria annually.
  • 90% of all cases are found in Africa.
  • Every 30 seconds a child dies of malaria. One case of malaria can cause up to 100 other infections.
  • Pregnant women and children under the age of 5 are most susceptible to malaria.

mosquito_rtHIS Nets is a non-profit organization which provides a Christian response to the global malaria epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa. HIS Nets purchases insecticide treated sleeping nets which are given to African families. These special nets provide protection to an entire family at a modest cost, $6. The nets are distributed by churches and other agencies free of charge as a tangible Christian witness.

These special nets continue to protect families from mosquitoes, and thus malaria, for up to four years. They have been proven to cut the incidence of malaria infection by half and child deaths from malaria by one-fifth.

Please place your quarters in the cylinders located throughout the church. Let’s see how many nets at $6 each we can send to Africa!!!! Quarters make dollars and dollars buy nets.

Disposable DiapersThe Mission Action Group of the WMU is collecting disposable diapers in all sizes for Family Promise, an organization that provides shelter and support to transitionally homeless families. A playpen, outside the kitchen, serves as our collection bin.

Gently-used Sunday School Resources and Devotional literature to share with our missionaries and our troops in Afghanistan.

birthday-cake-sliceThe GA project entitled "Birthday in a Bag" is aimed at helping children and families in need when one of the children has a birthday. The bags are distributed by the Coalition for Human Care. Please donate a box of cake mix, a can of frosting, candles, cupcake holders, decorations such as streamers, a small toy or book, paper plates, napkins, a can of spaghetti sauce, and noodles. The “Birthday in a Bag” donation box is located in the hallway outside the Prayer Room. Please consider donating a Birthday Bag each time someone in your family celebrates a birthday.

Unused Offering Envelopes: GA’s are continuing to collect unused offering envelopes to be used in the distribution of medication to patients treated by physicians at Temple Baptist Medical Center.

teddybear-100The GA’s (Girls in Action) are still collecting new or gently used teddy bears for Duke Children's and Wake Medical Centers. Bears can be placed in our Teddy Bear Tower located downstairs in the Children’s Education wing.

Cans of Spaghetti Sauce: (no jars please) for the Coalition of Human Care.

We also encourage our members to provide supplies for organizations such as Friend-to-Friend, and Backpack Pals. Watch the newsletter and church bulletin for announcements.
